I wasn’t much of a fisherlady until I spent a
week with Walt and Kathy. I caught a big King Salmon and some
great Halibut, but the highlight was the hard fighting Sockeye
Salmon we caught from the banks of the Kenai River. Man those
Sockeye’s are something else. Our wilderness fly-out for Silver
Salmon was also great, but after spending the day around those big
brown bears roaming the banks, I was glad to let them have their
domain back. I’m planning another trip for 2004 and just can’t
wait to zero in on those Sockeye’s again. Walt’s a great teacher
and our group did better than most others we talked to.

Walt taught me how to catch Sockeye Salmon on
the Kenai. Man what a thrilling challenge that was. He also
arranged for our group to fish for King’s, Halibut, and a
wilderness fly-out for early Silver’s. We had good success and I
can’t wait until I get the chance to go back very soon.

I’ve fished all over the world, but my best
trips have been with Walt and Kathy. It’s a challenge just to keep
up with his fishing ability. I’ve known Walt for over 20 years and
the fishing and hunting experiences he has shared with me are
difficult to express in words. The fabulous Sockeye fishing is the
greatest sports fishing I’ve ever had. A famous outdoor writer
once wrote “ The second run Hybrid Sockeye Salmon on the Kenai
River are the hardest fighters ounce for ounce than any other
living sports fish found in the world. Man they are a real
challenge and Walt is the best teacher.”
Mike Bachman – Ogden, UT
My Dad and I booked a trip through the
Internet with another guide to Alaska’s famed Kenai River. Our
trip was in early August after the King Salmon season was closed.
We were very disappointed with our trip until we accidentally met
Walt at the lodge we were staying at. Every day his clients would
rave about their fishing success and having so much fun with the
Pink Salmon catch and release activity that Walt had arranged.
After several more days of fishing with Walt we knew we had made
great friends and our trip had been well worth it. We were able to
really enjoy daily the Pink and Silver Salmon fishing until we
were tired. We’re planning another trip with Walt this next year,
wanting to tackle some big King Salmon. He has told us if we plan
for just the right time we can get in on some great Sockeye
fishing as well. Just can’t wait mate until we’re back in Alaska.

I’ve seen a lot of groups come and go over
the years here in Alaska. It seems to me that Walt and Kathy’s
groups just seem to be more satisfied with their trips than most.
I believe that their success comes from the large variety of
service providers they have and the extra time and effort they
devote to their groups that make the difference. I’d surely
recommend their services to any one and do so quite frequently.

I’ve been to Alaska twice on trips that Walt
has arranged. Both trips were more than I had ever expected. The
fishing trips he planned for me were so exciting and successful I
had a difficult time sleeping at night just waiting in
anticipation of the next day. Walt taught me how to catch those
hard to hook Sockeye Salmon and I often lay awake at night just
cherishing the memories. I’m planning another trip with my son and
some friends for 2004. I’m afraid I’ve caught the Alaska Fishing
Fever.
Doug Cory, Ogden, UT
I’ve not fished much and can’t say I’m a
great fisherman, but I’d always heard and read about the great
fishing in Alaska. Then I met Walt and arranged a trip to the
Kenai Peninsula. He convinced me I could almost pay for my trip
with the value of the Salmon and Halibut I could bring home, my
family loves fish. The trip was much more than I had ever
expected. We caught Kings, Halibut, Silvers and Sockeyes. I was a
little slow catching onto that Sockeye technique, but Walt was
patient and with practice it really paid off. My sons are growing
up now and we plan to return soon for a father and sons outing.

My two sons and I along with 8 other guys
decided to take a trip to Alaska. Living here in Idaho we’re all
avid Steelhead fishermen and wondered what more Alaska could offer
than what we had here at home. It was a graduation present for my
sons and a real father and sons get away experience that I was
after. Our group went to the extremes in laughing and having great
fun. The highlight of our trip was a three-day wilderness fly-out
float trip for Silver Salmon. The fishing was almost non-stop
until we were tired of catching fish. We smuggled some beer aboard
the flight and the first morning Walt asked if we would share some
of the beer with him. To our total delight he cooked us some of
his famous beer pancakes. To make a long story short, we rationed
our beer for drinking making sure we left enough for beer pancakes
every morning. We all talk about returning soon for another trip
to Alaska. I just can’t say enough about the great fishing, the
laughing till my stomach hurt, and the mouth watering beer
pancakes. Walt puts on a great trip.

I celebrated my 75th birthday with
a fishing trip to Alaska that I had always wanted to try. I
caught a 45 lb King Salmon and a 40 lb Halibut on two separate
charters all in the same day. Man what a day I’ll never forget. I
slept for 24 hrs after that. The rest of our time was spent
learning the different fishing techniques for catching Silver,
Sockeye and Pink Salmon. We limited out every day. Our group is
planning another trip this year 2004. The only thing I’ve asked
Walt to do is slow down my activities and let me rest every other
day. The fishing is just almost too much for a guy my age, but
it’s sure fun.
Eugene Phillips, Pickerington, OH
We’ve always wanted to go on a trip together
in Alaska, but we decided to wait until we retired. Then as senior
citizens we met Walt and decided to have him put us a combination
fishing and sightseeing trip together. The fishing was great and
we caught limits daily. We also explored the many wonderful places
on the Kenai Peninsula and then topped it all of with a trip to
Denali Park. We had a wonderful time and plan to go back soon.

After meeting Walt and Kathy we decided to
have Walt arrange an Elk hunting trip to their family ranch in
Salmon, ID. My wife spent the week enjoying the ranch style
living and helped make a king size comforter that we took home. I
was able to harvest a good 5-point bull Elk the 5th day of the
hunt. I shot the bull just a short distance behind the ranch on
US Forest Service land that borders the ranch. After using horses
to pack the animal out we stayed an extra day to cut and wrap all
the meat for our journey home. The hospitality we received was
something we’ll always remember. We’re planning a Caribou Hunt to
Alaska next with Walt and Kathy. We can hardly wait, but I’m sure
the trip will be exciting if Walt arranges it.

Along with another retired couple we drove
our campers to Alaska summer of 2003. We stayed for 5 weeks in an
RV park located in Soldotna on the Kenai River. We were there late
May until early July. While there we were lucky to meet Walt &
Kathy. Walt was recommended for good Halibut so we went out with
him on my wife’s 74 birthday. As luck would have it, she hooked
and landed a 75-pound Halibut. Wow she was a happy camper to say
the least. Not to be out done I tied into a 110 pounder and it was
a day we’ll always remember. A few days later Walt took us
clamming for 3 days in a row and we had a blast. Before we left, I
went out Halibut one last time and landed a 140 pounder. It just
plain wore me out reeling in that fish in a fast tide current and
on a lightweight jigging rod. We would highly recommend these
wonderful guides to anyone who want a truly great Alaskan
experience. We’re going back real soon for some Salmon.
Ella & Don Walker, Monroe, WA
My wife Jeannie & I retired and drove our new motorhome to
Alaska last summer 2003. Some folks at the RV Park we stayed in
recommended Walt as a good Halibut Capt. So we booked a trip with
him. I went out with him 4 times and would have gone more if funds
would have allowed. I caught a 110, 125, 130 pound halibut along
with many more over 50 pounds. My wife Jeannie of course had to
catch the largest fish weighing in at 205. She’ll never let me
live that down. Walt also taught us his technique for catching
wild Sockeye Salmon from the bank on the Kenai River. After
mastering the knack, we out fished every one else at the RV Park.
They just couldn’t figure out why we were so good. Walt's teaching
was the answer but we didn’t tell any one. We’re going back soon
and would highly recommend Walt & Kathy as great guides and hosts.
You just don’t know what you’re missing.
Jeannie & Craig Evans - Vancouver, WA
My Dad, Brother and I put a group of avid fishermen together
for a trip to Alaska in 2003. We heard rave reviews about Walt &
Kathy so we decided to give them a try. They set up a 3-day
wilderness float trip for Silver Salmon. It was the absolute
high light of our trip and the best fishing any of us had ever
had. We caught and released so many Salmon we lost track not to
mention the wonderful fresh Salmon barbeques we had every night
while in camp. It was almost unbelievable he could arrange for 12
of us to go at the same time accompanied by three truly great
guides. We also fished for Kings on the Kenai River and Halibut in
the Cook Inlet. If that wasn’t enough we topped it all off with
Sockeye’s from the bank in back of the Lodge we stayed at. All the
services and guides were top notch. We’re already planning another
even larger group to return for 2005. No doubt in our minds it
will be Walt & Kathy who will coordinate our next trip.
